As prime contractor for the ground segment of the German national satellite communications mission “Heinrich Hertz” SCISYS Deutschland GmbH recently awarded a contract to the Mainz-based company MT Mechatronics Germany for the production and delivery of five antennas.
The five ground stations with antenna diameters between 7.3 to 13 meters will be performing various functions within the ground segment in Germany. They will make it possible to control the satellite, execute and monitor the experiments and utilize the communication payloads on board of the satellite.

The company successfully tendered for the contract in an international competition. As prime contractor for the Heinrich Hertz (H2Sat) ground segment SCISYS is responsible for the complete ground segment of the mission spanning from technology to the mission operations concept. With the recent purchase for the antennas in the ground station, SCISYS successfully reached a major milestone for the set-up of the H2Sat ground segment infrastructure.
The German national satellite communications mission Heinrich Hertz is aimed at conducting scientific and technical studies and tests of new communication technologies in space. In addition, the satellite will carry an independent telecommunication payload (MilSatcom) that will be used by the German Federal Ministry of Defence. The Heinrich Hertz satellite mission is supported by the DLR Space Administration, with funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and conducted in collaboration with the German Federal Ministry of Defence (BMVg). OHB System AG awarded a contract by the the German Aerospace Center (DLR) for the implementation of phase C/D plus launch of the Heinrich Hertz mission.
