We are pleased to announce that SciSys and Cable & Wireless Worldwide (C&WW) have successfully completed the roll out of the 101 service to all the police forces in England and Wales.
101 is a telephone number that is being provided to citizens for non emergency calls to the police. This might be to report a crime that has already taken place, to report less urgent crime or disorder such as car theft, drug dealing or to raise a query about policing matters. The aim is to take pressure off the 999 service so that 999 is used solely for true emergencies. The 101 option has been available in Sheffield, Hampshire, Wales and Northern Ireland for a number of years. The Home Office, the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), the 43 police forces, C&WW and SciSys have now completed a national roll-out of the service which took place from April to December 2011.
SciSys has been providing the mapping and routing database for this service since 2007. In the last few months SciSys staff have been busy working to prepare the routings for the database which ensure that callers are directed to the correct local police call centre. This has involved close working with C&WW, the mobile phone providers and the police forces to agree the approach for the mapping, and a new innovative approach that handles calls made from locations at the borders between police forces. SciSys also provides ongoing support for the service.
After the go-live decision for the first region, Trevor Pennington the C&WW Programme manager wrote to SciSys saying: “From myself, The Programme Team, ACPO and the Home Office, a huge thank you for your focus on getting Phase 1 to go live on schedule. The customers have commented several times on our level of responsiveness and professionalism”.
