Steve Brignall, SciSys Director and Chief Technical Officer comments: “Both the SciSys Environment Division and the Coal Authority should be proud of this award. Inferis is a great example of how much value can be derived when matching the right technology solution to a complex business problem. This value can only be realised with an open and mutually respectful relationship between the supplier and the customer such as we have with the Coal Authority. The approach we have taken in delivering Inferis is based on the considerable experience we have gained providing environmental regulatory systems over the last 10 years”.

SciSys is an advanced level IBM business partner, recognised as a specialist in the use of technologies in business process management.

About the nominated solution: Coal Authority “Inferis”.

Inferis is a critical system for the Coal Authority; central to their operations it brings previously dispersed corporate data and knowledge into a central repository and provides a set of re-usable tools that serve individual business functions and customers. Business benefits to the Coal Authority include greater efficiencies and reductions in risks to property and the environment from subsidence and pollution associated with the legacy of past mining.

Technically the solution is based on true service oriented architecture principles (SOA) with services orchestrated into business processes by IBM products. It has significant mapping components based around the ESRI set of tools which are closely integrated with the IBM products and tailored to each business process.
