Coal Authority Inferis System
Inferis is a critical system for the Coal Authority; central to their operations, it brings previously dispersed corporate data and knowledge into a central repository and provides a set of re-usable tools that serve individual business functions and customers. Business benefits to the Coal Authority include greater efficiencies and reductions in risks to property and the environment from subsidence and pollution associated with the legacy of past mining.
Irish Environmental Protection Agency - System Architecture
As part of the EPA’s Vision 2020 the decision was made to develop a unified Licensing Enforcement and Monitoring Application (LEMA) to facilitate information sharing across all four of the Environment Protection Agency’s thematic offices (Licensing and Resource Use, Assessment, Enforcement and Corporate Services) and ten geographical locations. SciSys was engaged by the EPA to deliver an Architectural Design Statement (ADS) that would Provide the overarching design principles for the phased development of the LEMA solution and make specific technology recommendations for implementing the solution.
CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme
The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme is a mandatory scheme covering approximately 3,500 large public and private sector organisations. DECC and the Environment Agency needed a solution in place to support new legislation from 1st April 2010. SciSys proposed a full service solution; taking responsibility for the delivery of a bespoke software solution and all associated elements of the IT implementation. SciSys has successfully delivered three releases of software meeting agreed schedules and requirements. Feedback from over 1300 organisations shows a very positive reaction to the IT system. 84% of Participants and 93% of Information Declarers reported a satisfactory or positive experience completing their registrations.
Better Regulation through Online Registrations
The Environment Agency, along with its regulatory solutions partner SciSys, has launched a new online system that allows industry to directly apply for and automatically receive registrations for activities that are under Environment Agency control. The new online system is unique in that it uses a set of rules to assess the risk posed to the environment of the activities being applied for and can automatically grant lower risk licences without any delay or Environment Agency staff time being used.
Innovative Scheduling Solution for the Environment Agency
The Environment Agency is using FARMS, a SciSys built innovative Agricultural Scheduling System to provide both a mobile and back-office solution to improve the management and undertaking of farm inspections. FARMS consists of a server-based back office component that provides information on all of the permits that apply to a particular farm as well as the risks associated with location, size, previous non-compliance and agricultural accreditations. The system also holds the inspection reports from the last visit. This allows the prioritisation of farm inspections based on a complex risk formula, so only those that pose a threat to the environment are visited.
National Flood and Coastal Defence Database (NFCDD)
The Environment Agency commissioned SciSys to produce a National Flood and Coastal Defence Database (NFCDD). This centralised database provides the definitive repository for all data on flood and coastal defence assets in England and Wales, enabling effective analysis and improved decision making on defence investments to help the Government prioritise expenditure for high-risk areas.
Environmental Data Repository and Laboratory Information Management System
Thames Water is responsible for protecting public health by ensuring that standards of sewage and drinking water treatment meet regulatory guidelines. To this end Thames Water operates a 24-hour laboratory service which is constantly testing samples taken from both networks. Sampling is performed in line with a pre-defined annual schedule that is agreed with the regulator. Thames Water commissioned SciSys to replace a suite of existing applications with a new Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Environmental Data Repository (EDR).
Dynamic Service Modelling
Designed for organisations seeking to develop and supply environmental, agricultural or security monitoring and alerting services, Earth Observation Service Characterisation is a modelling approach that provides an ndependent assessment of the feasibility and cost effectiveness of developing Earth Observation services, and which delivers a comprehensive, quantified specification of the required service chain from satellite to desktop.
Thames Water - Notes Managed Service (NMS)
Thames Water is one of the world's largest water providers with over 6,000 employees worldwide. SciSys have supported and maintained the Thames Water Lotus Notes environment since 1997
