Traditionally, communications training has involved the use of real equipment in the classroom. This is costly, time consuming, and can create problems regarding frequency allocation. SciSys has developed an innovative training simulation solution which provides virtual comms terminals on a computer desktop allowing interaction between trainees through pre-configured 'real-life' training exercises.
The simulator supports the training of 70,000 service personnel in the BOWMAN communications system. BOWMAN is one of the UK's most significant current defence programmes. It provides a tactical, secure communications system for all three armed services; the backbone of the UK military's Network Enabled Capability (NEC) for digitised battlespace.
SciSys' BOWMAN Simulator allows trainees to have their own high-fidelity virtual equipment, increasing the time available for hands-on training. Additionally, a synthetic environment containing realistic (and real-life) interactive scenarios involving multiple trainees provides an immediate capability to support low cost team training.
The BOWMAN Simulator is an extensible solution, its design facilitates the addition of new communications equipment types, and the synthetic environment allows the development of more sophisticated autonomous entities in the virtual world (e.g. computer-generated forces).
BOWMAN equipment is fitted to approximately 20,000 military vehicles, over 150 ships and nearly 300 aircraft.
