Successful businesses need IT solutions that deliver an edge over the competition. Most businesses recognise that IT solutions should be driven by business needs to obtain real benefits. A lot of organisations can obtain these benefits by purchasing Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) solutions, especially in well-established areas such as Financial Systems, ERP, etc. SciSys takes advantage of such strategies by leveraging the benefits of COTS solutions and providing the "glue" to integrate packages together and into the existing technical infrastructure of an organisation.
In many cases, there are no COTS solutions that match the business needs. SciSys are experts at providing innovative bespoke solutions to achieve real business benefits and a competitive edge (see Software Development for details).
SciSys has partnership and supply relationships with a number of COTS vendors, including BEA, Oracle and IBM. These suppliers provide the underlying technologies for the majority of customers but are not sufficient to supply all needs. There are numerous other large and small software suppliers as well as Open Source software that can be utilised to short cut development. Examples are MapInfo (for GIS visualisations software), BancTec (for workflow and imaging software), Staffware (workflow), Business Objects (ad hoc report and business intelligence), to name but a few.
SciSys has the project management and integration skill to take on the implementation of third-party solutions. A recent example of this is the implementation of the Thermo LabSystems laboratory management software for Thames Water (see EDR/LIMS case study). Such large scale mission critical systems need a safe pair of hands to ensure the system goes live bang on time with the minimum of disruption to the business.
Good integration services need suppliers that can co-operate. SciSys is renowned for acting as the mediator between suppliers to get the best out of all parties to the customers benefit.
